The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity (Lighthouse Club) has received a funding boost thanks to a £2,000 donation from Churchill’s own charity the Churchill Foundation.
The Lighthouse Club was put forward for a donation through the charity’s Small Grants initiative, which enables Colleagues from across the Churchill Group to nominate causes close to their heart for a one-off grant of up to £2,000.
The Lighthouse Club is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families. It receives no public funding and relies on donations from within the industry to help continue its vital work.
At Churchill we are proud to have trained around 40 Colleagues across the business as Mental Health First Aiders, who can act as a point of contact and correctly signpost to professional help for Colleagues who need support. Many of these Mental Health First Aiders are based at our construction sites up and down the country, including Site Manager Mark Scates who helped to celebrate Churchill’s status as a Lighthouse Club ‘Charity Champion’.
Senior L&D Partner Paul Croft delivers Churchill’s in-house Mental Health First Aider training and is the Colleague who put forward the charity for a donation. Commenting on the ‘Charity Champion’ award, Paul said: “I’m delighted to be able to award this donation to the Lighthouse Club through the Churchill Foundation. Having worked closely with the HBF’s Mental Health Awareness Group it’s a charity I have got to know well over the years, and I’ve seen the positive difference it can make for people in our industry.
“We believe strongly in giving something back to the communities where we work, and we care about supporting the physical and mental health of our Colleagues, including those in our supply chain and the wider construction sector. We’re therefore very proud to be supporting the important work the Lighthouse Club does all over the country.”
